Sacred Heart Catholic Academy of Bayside
Our Mission
The purpose of this effort is to assure the safety of all those who are a part of the Sacred Heart Catholic Academy family. Although we are located in a safe community, it has been shown that there are no indicators for where acts of violence may occur. Frequently our children are the most vulnerable when these events happen. In order to reduce the risks to their safety, we have decided to focus on School Safety as a priority for this year.
Some of the things we have done to be proactive are:

Active shooter training for the principal and the staff

Frequent Fire Drills and Lockdowns

Security guard placement at the main entrance on 38th avenue.

13 Security cameras that monitor the school entrances.
Listed below are some of the systems that we are looking into:

A one button lock down security alert system that will have the capacity to instantly notify all staff and emergency services across multiple devices of an untoward incident ($3,800-$5,000)

Integrated access control enhanced with up to 3 video/live intercoms. The intercoms will enable security and/or administration to interact with visitors before entering the building and, if appropriate, grant access remotely ($4,666/door)

Integrated digital locks/key card access systems that will both limit and monitor entry by staff and authorized personnel (such as CYO & CCD) ($1,500/door)

Upgrading classroom door systems to install additional physical locking devices/door bars for 38 rooms ($2,000).
We hope to add the following upgrades in phases:

Replace existing locks with a lockdown device ($18,000)

Expand existing video surveillance system from 13 to 20 cameras (Cost TBD)
The Safe School Matching Challenge will run from now until the end of November.
